How to Declare a Major

FAQs for the New GS Major Declaration Policy

Applications are accepted throughout the year during the spring, summer and fall semesters.

To be eligible to declare students must:

  • have completed the online Major Declaration Workshop.
  • have completed the Global Studies Major Declaration Form.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Have completed GLOBAL 10A with a grade of C or better (C- does not satisfy this requirement) Note that GLOBAL 10A may be repeated only once to achieve a grade of C or better.
  • Have completed GLOBAL 45 (IAS 45) with a grade of B- or better on the first attempt.
  • Have completed one of these additional lower division non-language requirements: Global 10B; Econ 1 or 2; STAT 2, C8, 20, 21 or W21
  • Additionally, students are encouraged – but not required – to complete two semesters of college-level foreign language or the equivalent before applying to the major.
