General Information
The M.A. degree in Global Studies (GS) is a one-year Masters program. It is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with the fundamentals of contemporary international issues, as well as detailed knowledge about particular world regions. The M.A. degree in Global Studies provides students with wide flexibility in crafting an individual program, and is appropriate for students who plan to pursue careers in a wide variety of fields. Students can tailor the content of their programs within a defined framework to help them pursue specific career goals. Courses are selected in consultation with a faculty adviser.

M.A. Requirements
- Complete a minimum of 24 units of coursework; at least 12 units must be graduate-level coursework (course numbered 200-299).
- No more than 1/3 of all units taken for the M.A. may be taken as Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory or Pass/No Pass.
- Complete two Global Studies proseminars, one in the fall and one in the spring.
- Enroll in at least two social science and two area studies courses (in the same area).
- Complete a research thesis, 40-50 pages in length, over two semesters in the Global Studies Master's seminar. The thesis is designed to synthesize the material from the student's coursework and independent research on their declared region of interest.
